Coffee Bag Material Guide

How to choose MOPP/VMPET/PE, PET/AL/PE, kraft paper structures, valve position and zipper types for coffee bags.

High-barrier structure

For coffee beans and ground coffee, MOPP 20µm / VMPET 12µm / PE 80µm is a common high-barrier structure. PET/AL/PE is used when stronger oxygen and aroma barrier is required.

Valve position

One-way valve Ø9–12 mm is commonly placed 35–55 mm below the top seal. This keeps the valve clear of the zipper and heat seal area.

Testing

Coffee bag projects should include vacuum leak test, valve airflow test and 1.0 m filled bag drop test.
